LA BioStart Bioscience Entrepreneurs Boot Camp at Cal State LA has applications open for its winter 2019 cohort. The LA BioStart Bioscience Entrepreneurs Boot Camp is a five-week, highly interactive, intensive training program pairing emerging bioscience entrepreneurs with industry experts and executives for rapid training in business fundamentals, bioscience knowledge and leadership skills. There is no cost to attend with complimentary food and parking for all participants. The courses will be primarily held on the Cal State LA campus, with a few sessions being held in downtown Los Angeles. Experts and professionals involved in instruction and mentoring come from major companies and institutions including Celgene, Xencor, Atheln, Gilead Sciences, Synthetic Genomics, and Nixon Peabody. Upon successful completion of the boot camp, participants will receive a full year of membership to Biocom. Launched at the 2014 MRS Fall Meeting, iMatSci—Innovation in Materials Science provides a platform for technology leaders at universities, research labs and start-up companies to demonstrate the practical applications of innovative, materials-based technologies.The goal of this program is to convene innovators, industry leaders and investors in one location to spur collaboration that accelerates the adoption of new materials technologies for real-world applications. iMatSci is designed to showcase technologies that have not yet been productized but where there is a working prototype or evidence of a repeatable process. The entities behind these innovations will generally be early stage and pre-revenue; however iMatSci will also consider showcasing innovative technologies that are emerging from an existing corporate entity.

Cyclotron Road is a premier fellowship and incubator for entrepreneurial scientists and engineers, sponsored by the U.S Department of Energy and hosted at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (Berkeley Lab). It supports U.S.based innovators from any technical background and at any stage of their career, with one caveat: you must be a first-time technical founder to be eligible for the program.
As part of the program, you receive:
- A cash stipend of approximately $200,000 per participant over two years
- $100,000 of project funds to be used at Berkeley Lab
- Health insurance benefits and travel funds
- Lab space and tech support from Berkeley Lab experts and facilities

The Jacobs Institute is a key component of the Cornell NYC Tech campus in New York City. The startup postdoc program named Runway provides PhD level candidates with the opportunity to apply and commercialize their research within the entrepreneurial NYC and Cornell Tech ecosystem. For those accepted, it provides candidates with a supportive environment including a postdoc salary, research budget and mentoring in technology, and education and mentoring in business and entrepreneurship, to mention just a few items. Runway is governed by a special IP arrangement in which IP developed in the program can be licensed on an exclusive, royalty free basis. In exchange for its support and the licensed IP, the Jacobs Institute receives a modest stake in the company, implemented using a convertible security. Deal terms are specified as part of the program rather than negotiated an individually for each postdoc company.The program may be relevant for PhD students in your institute who wish to apply their research through a startup and may have approached your organization for support. Runway provides such students with the opportunity to start their company within the Cornell Tech entrepreneurial academic environment and the vibrant NYC eco-system.
